Tuesday, 8:30am, said bye to Kuni and now stuck in traffic heading to Tokyo. Luckily Ry is asleep in the car.

お婆ちゃんがこれから来君をみてくれるけどまだ仕事終わってなくて家いないの。朝１０時半。来君とまってるあいだ池袋でおもちゃを見に行く。

Got rid of the baby...time to go do some work. On the way to meeting with Pete and Kyle in Takebashi. Tuesday 1:30pm, Ikebukuro. In thongs of course.

Pick up Ry by 6:30pm, jump in the car and head back to Chiba....hard traffic, get home at 10pm...

Wednesday, 6am wakeup with Ry. All housework is done by 10am including some packing for the upcoming move to the studio and a big bike/run with the dogs. Baked cookies for friends.
Run around and do some work on the camping car after lunch.
水曜日来君と朝６時起き。１０時までハウスワークと大きい自転車犬散歩全部終わった。引っ越しじゅんびもいろいろ出来た。友達にクッキーもやいた。ランチ食べたあとスタジオに行ってキャンピングカーの中のリフォーム少しやった。

1:30pm, off to Mariko san's house for homemade Plum Juice and cake! bloody hot outside.
午後１時半。いつもおせわになってるの友達の家で手作りウメジュースとケーキ！外めちゃ暑い！

3pm, off to give cuddles to Baby Hideki and let Ry play in the pool with Marisa.
午後３時。ベビーヒデキ君とダッコ！河合過ぎ。。来君はマリサお姉ちゃんとプールで遊び！

4pm, no wind, bit of swell, off to the beach for a surf with Yuumi and Sawyer! yeeey!
午後４時。風邪ない。波残ってる。ユウミちゃんとソーヤ君とママサーフタイム！最高。

8pm. baby asleep. time to do computer work...office rules are no work without beer. Life is pretty damn sweet.
夜8時。疲れちゃった来君寝ちゃった。これからママのオッフィスオーペンする。。。オッフィスのルールはビールを飲まなきゃ。。。ライフは忙しいのに最高だね。。

What on earth is gonna come along tomorrow???

Torami surf!

Fun waves out at Torami this morning, bout waist high so good for the twinnie and fun on the sets. Bloody crowded though, what's with that? Does no-one work around here???

Gotta get it tomorrow too before the wind picks up, but with the Tokyo heads rolling in before dawn, and with dawn being at 4am...Might wait for the local crew surf time around 7...

今日クニと来君とクニの地元友達と東浪見でサーフ。セットでこしくらいあったかな。。だからツイン楽しかった！でも、すごい人多かった。。なんで？と考えてるね。。みんな仕事してないのかい？？笑う。

明日土壌日だからやばいでしょう。。夜中に来るから朝一より７じくらい入って来るとベストかもね。。

Steamers!

Ry and I went to visit Noriko and Lyla chan at Steamer's cafe today down in Hebara. I LOVE the Garlic Prawns there! Yum! Ry was super grumpy from no sleep (5am wake up for no reason..again..) but eventually he got some genki and the kids played a little. Lyla is 6 months and Ry 10months and it was amazing to see the difference. I can't beleive how much Ry has grown lately-he is now almost walking, doing some crazy frog crawl, talking a little in both Japanese and English (most probably only Kuni and I can understand, but he's repeating almost everything we say to him!) and he is sleeping less and less (great).

The wind was full blown onshore and surf almost flat, but it was lovely to sit looking out onto the ocean on such a clear day.

Thanks to Steamer's for having us again and to Noriko and Lyla for inviting us!

Kick Kick Kick!

We are now in July, and it's been roughly 7 months since I changed the way I eat. My new year's resolution was to do more for the environment, including cutting out meat from my life and only buying local produce wherever possible.

I have found it challenging, particularly having a baby and breastfeeding trying to keep iron and protein levels up is hard! But I feel better for the change and although I still eat seafood, I keep the fish I buy local only and have been surprised that even though I live in a fishing town most of the seafood sold at the local supermarkets are all imported! So even fish has been off the menu unless something local comes in..and I know it was caught sustainably (none of that horrible overfishing thanks!)

On a magazine shoot trip back in Oz over xmas, a friend introduced me to a completely organic supplement called Spirulina:

Spirulina is the richest nutrient and complete food source found in the world. It contains over 100 nutrients, more than any other plant, grain or herb. Today Spirulina is widely used as a food supplement to maintain health, boost energy and reduce weight

Spirulina contains 60-63 % protein, up to 13 % of essence minerals like Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Phosphorus, Iron, and Zinc as well as complete vitamin B groups and many important anti-oxidants (which protect cells). The anti-oxidant Phycocyanin can only be found in Spirulina. It is the richest natural source of Vitamin E and beta-carotene.

I buy the powder form and put it in a banana/juice smoothie every morning for Kuni and I which gives us that extra kick we both need in our busy lives and those added nutrients and iron I need to keep up my breastfeeding regime without losing my own strength!

Today I received in the post a second-hand Juicer (I love recycled stuff! Why buy new when you can reduce waste by recycling!) which is all hand operated, so we don't have to worry about electricity which will be good when we move onto our un-finished studio later this month!

Ryder and I were keen to test it out with some rockmelon and the results! Delicious!

I must admit I find it tough to maintain an organic lifestyle out in Chiba-most of the farmers spray their crops with pesticides so even the farmer's markets aren't entirely safe...but over on our new land I've planted some of our own herbs and vegies which are thriving! No chemicals used whatsoever and that's the way it should be!

Family Style

It takes a long time to get to the point where you want to go, but once you're on that road it's worth the hard work.
Pleasure and pain as one, the balance between everything and anything.

Three of us have come together now, it's been struggle and smiles. And it's all worth it at the end.

Work Stay in Chiba Japan!

Work for rent in Japan's favourite surfside town Ichinomiya/Taito.

The Takanami's are looking for a strong, fit guy or couple to help build our shooting studio in Chiba on the east coast of Japan. We can offer you a place to stay for free in exchange for working on the studio 5 days a week (Sat&Sun off or choose your own days off).

Great for the traveling surfer, 10min bike ride from Taito beach or Ichinomiya's famed Shida point (home to the WCT and WQS contests).

Stay as long as you like, could be a week or a month, we are flexible and negotiable!

I wanna go back....

Last year Kuni and I were so lucky to travel to India as part of a Patagonia/BLUE Magazine and Surfers Eyes collaboration project. We were away for 1 month, just the two of us, and experienced everything from the epic sunrises along the ghats of Varanasi to insane morning surf sessions in crystal clear waters along the west coast.
Pregnant at the time, it was our last major trip by ourselves before little Ryder was due to come into the world and join us on future adventures.
Now at 10months old, crawling and ready for anything, Kuni and I are eager to get back to India for Part 2 of our mission. This time around, Ryder will be with us so who knows what will be in store!

Ry hits Taito!

We were SO glad to hear our friend has moved down the road, and Ry and I spent the afternoon with her down at our local, Taito, to enjoy the sunshine. Loving the water right from birth, Ry got on a board for the 3rd time, and I jumped on behind him to enjoy some clean, glassy action. We borrowed the VECTOR from Sage Joske who is visiting from Australia, and needless to say fun was had by all.
I think I even had more fun tandeming with my son than I have had in years surfing. Kids are insane!

Paying tribute to a wonderful woman

On the train to Tokyo this morning I couldn't help but wonder what percent of the people on board are doing what they love. People watching on the trains is an interesting way to pass the 2 and a bit hours from Ichinomiya to Shibuya. They start out a cross between country folk and tanned surfers, and eventually all sorts start to jump on board as the train creeps closer into the city. Arriving in Shibuya a couple hours earlier than my scheduled meeting, I was able to enjoy a few plates of sushi and do some window shopping, and of course some more people watching. One girl walked passed in platform stilettos that were clear at the platform with little white plastic balls bobbing up and down inside. I'm sure she thought she looked good. .I wondered if she was really happy with those shoes...they looked painful to walk in..

Recently I've been tuning my mind in to creating balance within my own life. Kuni and I spend months and months of each year flying back and forth, churning out k's in rental cars and using a ton of the earth's precious resources to fullfill our love of surfing, and make a living out of it. So to balance that I always carbon offset our flights, have recently turned vegetarian and am trying only to eat seafood that is caught locally by fisherman, or even better, my lovely husband.

I'm verging into the realm of over-paranoid, or perhaps not paranoid enough, of the amount of 'iranai' (unwanted/useless) STUFF that we have collected in our house...more surfboards than we ride, countless 'omiyage' (souvenirs), more t-shirts than we know what to do with and other odd bits and pieces. What to do with it all in a country where garage sales don't exist? Donate, to charities, where possible, and flea markets. Yahoo auction. Ebay-my Aunty Chris LOVED ebay! But my favourite, is to pass on things to friends. This act of recycling stuff is so inspiring!! We should all really do it more often. I'm even thinking about bringing up the idea of recycled only gifts at Christmas for the family...

So why the worry? Why this ongoing urge to be more environmentally concious? Because I am a surfer.

The ocean is my playground, my meditation post, my friend.

Her creatures are my cousins, from the smallest piece of coral to the largest whale.

The land is my comfort. Pitch a tent and breathe in the fresh air.

This is the simple life, the special life, and for those who dare you'll never turn back.

This blog is dedicated to the people in my life who have given me the inspiration to surf, search for waves and clean up my footprints. The people who take charge and just go for what they beleive in. And to everyone else who touches my life in some way special-my family, my friends, all whom I can't mention here but I think of every day. Thankyou.

I feel the need to continue to wake each morning and look out the window to check the wind. There's an amazing connection with nature that comes with being a surfer. Wow, what a special life we are given.

Ry has already caught his first wave and even splashed around in the water off a boat in Bali at the outer reefs. As a parent who lives for the ocean, watching your child appreciate even more than what you do is a humbling thing...the way he picks up the sand in his hand and then opens his grasp and watches the wind catch the granules...what is he thinking? Most of the time he just eats it, but when he actually plays with the sand it's an increddible thing to watch. When a wave comes and crashes over his face and he blinks for a moment then wiggles him arms in the sign for wanting more...it's increddible.

Life is pretty special.

Surfing is even more special.

Keep it real, keep it real simple.

Back Back Back in Japan, now bring on summer! Greenroom Festival is coming too!

What a year it's been so far, already May and I feel like the year has only just begun, fitting back into Japanese life is a bit tricky but the weather has been kind!
Ry and I met up with Kuni in Bali on the way home from Oz, a 2 week fly-by trip that was just what this rehabili surfing mamma needed! Airport lefts were so fun-BIG thanks to Ryuta kun for lending us his quad, a great fit for the friendly waves!

Japan life is hard to slip back into after 5 months on and off in Oz...but the Udon, soba, ramen and sushi get the taste buds singing, and 2 weeks of almost perfect weather hint that summer is on the way, meaning we have officially escaped another winter! yeeey!

Ry is growing everyday and starting to crawl and trudging around in his walker getting into everything, a monster in the making! Blabbing along in whatever language he pleases, not quite sure if it's English or Japanese at this stage, but hopefully he will have a go at both!

Work wise and it never ends, Kuni is off to Niijima tomorrow to catch a good swell and get some shots. In the meantime mumma is home working on a hot new summer edition of OJ magazine and some great aussie destinations for the PPJ Australia website launch.

Event wise and Greenroom Festival 2010 is on next weekend, May 22-23. For those who haven't been get a ticket and get your butts there this year! It is our favourite Japanese music/film/art event of the year and with Arrested Development headling the stage this year, art by The Critical Slide Society, Sho Watanabe and so much more, it's going to be as mindblowing as ever!

Surfworld

Popped into the Goldcoast Surfworld Museum this week to give a copy of
Blue to curator Mal Sutherland. For those who haven't visited the
museum yet I highly reccommend you do-it's like taking a step back in
time to a place where the waves pumped and you and your mates were the
only ones out.
Thanks to Mal and Carl Tanner who allowed me to interview them and
showed us around the museuem last December.

R.I.P Christine Cox

My fabulous Aunty, a mover and shaker in the world of women's surfing, Christine Cox aged 65 ended a battle with multiple myeloma peacefully with her family by her side, April 1, 2010.
Her funeral will be held at 11:30am at the Heysen Chapel, Centennial Park, Adelaide, on Wednesday 7th April, followed by an after party and paddle out ceremony at the Seacliff SLSC.

Adelaide Sunsets

Well Ry and I have been back in oz for 3 weeks again, whilst Papa Kuni is off in Hawaii, Sri Lanka and Bali shooting and working hard! The past few weeks have been full of action, with tough family situations to deal with as well as lots of great moments with friends, family and plenty of beach time in this pristine weather!
Last weekend we stayed down at Middleton for a few days with the cousins, to celebrate Aunty Chris' 65th birthday! Aunty Chris has been diagnosed with a terminal rare blood disease, but is fighting with all her might and doing well. The party was a blast, great to see the sun shine and can you believe she put a surfing ban on all of us on the one day of the year that Middleton Bay was CRANKING!! A few grumpy kids in the morning I tell ya!! ha ha!

Ry has been having a ball playing with all the cousins! Jethro is 2 months older than him and the two had their Christening ceremony down on the beach at Middleton Bay- Uncle Coxy and Uncle Dan did the honors of pouring water from Wategos Beach in Byron Bay over the boys heads, inducting them into our religion-SURFING!

Serena and I even got in a little surf with Kate, Andrew and Uncle Coxy! Single fins and twinnies! Yeah!

For the past few days now Ry and I have been staying at Uncle John and Aunty Evelyn's house at Maslins Beach, the ocean view is amazing! Water is just perfect and the sunsets have been fantastic. We went out to lunch at a winery/cafe/gallery called Red Poles today, absolutely delicious! John has been painting some of their tables so in return we were treated to their finest sparkling red, ravioli soup and grilled snapper. Ry made a little girlfriend and played ball with Archie the dog.
Check out the cafe, www.redpoles.com. Evelyn's giant BILBY inflatable will be up over the Easter weekend at Red Poles, along with live entertainment, more wine and great food!

Tomorrow we go back to mum's house, then back to Middleton on the weekend, and one last week in Adelaide before flying up to the east coast for a month, before going to meet Kuni in Bali! Can't wait!

もう３週間くらいに実家に帰っています。今回クニがハワイ、スリーランカーとバリで仕事頑張ってくれてオーストラリアは一緒に来なかった。とても寂しいけど、すぐに会えるから楽しみしてる。
今回でも時間本当に早く立ってます！いろいろなファマリーな問題で力を出してるからやっぱり疲れてるけど、友達時間、良いファマリー時間そしていっぱいビーチ時間できてるから元気だよ！来君もとても大きくなってる。この前にBLUEの締め切りで毎日毎晩仕事だったから、久しぶりに来君の時間もいっぱい作って最高です。天気がずっと良くて、最高！

先週末、クリスおばさんが６５歳の誕生日partyをMiddletonでやったから、イトコ達と一緒にビーチサイドハウスレンタルした。子供達もいっぱいいたから来君喜んだ。クリスは去年にガンにってるの病気なって、毎日身体が辛くなってるのにいっぱい頑張ってる。大きいなpartyできて、本当に喜んだみたい。あの日にクリスが『サーフィン言っちゃうダメ！』とファマリーのみんなに言われて。。朝起きたら波本当に最高だったからみんなイライラしゃった！笑う。COXYおじさんがずっとうるさくて、最後に30分に入っちゃった！笑う。本当に良い波だった。。残念！！ハハ！

次の日に６ヶ月の来君と８ヶ月のジェット君がchristeningセレモニーやっちゃいました。Middletonビーチでサーフィンマスター達Coxy＆Danがバイロンベイの『ワテゴーズビーチ』の海水をもって、あたまにつけて、赤ちゃん達がサーフィン世界に入りました。良いでしょう！

私といとこセリナー、ケートそしてCOXYとも一緒に久しぶりサーフィンして、古いのシングルフィン使えた最高だった！！！

今週にジョンおじさんとエベリンおばさんの家に泊まってくれて、こっちもビーチフロントだよ。波無い所だけど、本当にきれいです。サンセットは毎日やばいです。２人ともartistだから、すごくシンプルな面白いライフスタイルしてる。今日私のオーストラリア紹介ウエッブサイトの仕事で一緒に『REDPOLES』というwineryにいって、本当に美味しいランチ食べた！ジョンがそのwineryのテーベルの上にえいを書いてる。

明後日からまたMiddletonに行きます。クリスおばさん達にもっと来君と一緒じかんあげたいだから。病気大変からね。。あと1週間にアデレイードにいて、来月頭からまたゴールドーコースト＆バイロンベイに行く予定。むこうからでも仕事あるし。そして、月末にクニとバリで待ち合わせするね。とても楽しみ。もうだんなが近くいないと辛いですね。寂しい過ぎる。。あえるのは本当に楽しみです！！！

Growing up

An amazing yet scary thought crossed my mind his morning...one day ry
is going to move out of home and get married and not be my baby
anymore!!!!
Natural evolution and growth, so fantastic to see it in action.

Whilst that day is still years away, having a baby makes you see just
how fast time flies. Falling victim to the overpowering thoughts in
our head, we rarely focus on the now and just savour the moment.

Today ry was in the jumper being super cute and kuni and I were both
home to enjoy the moment as it happened, soaking up all the excitement
Ryder was projecting and watching him for ages just learning,
developing and loving life for what it was giving him at that exact
point in time.

Overthinkin gets you nowhere. Savour what you have in front of your
face right now and enjoy your life as it unfolds.

A busy week flying between Adelaide, Sydney, Gold Coast and then
finally Japan has left Ry and I totally buggered and almost looking
forward to a month of house-bound living! But never did we expect to
fly into a Tokyo snowstorm!!!!
There were even giant snowflakes pelting down late last night here on
the east coast in Isumi, Chiba!!!

Right back into the full swing of things, Kuni and I shot with Sho and
Jon for the new Oshmans spring wetsuit catalog today at our home studio.

Ry has been snugged up in fleece and bath time is our favourite part
of the day!

Is it bad to say I'm looking forward to heading back to oz next
month....always missing the pups and of course kuni, but snow on he
coast is much too much. A trip to pow pow land a must me thinks....

Onto 2010. Kuni is back in Japan, and braving the lonely cold. He noticed the streets are empty and everyone is locked inside their homes. He misses the Aussie heat and the festivities that come with summer down under.

Ry and I have a week and a bit left in Adelaide before we shoot over to visit family and friends in Sydney for a few days, then back in Japan Feb 1st. Unfortunately a never-ending deadline has meant that I have not been able to relax much at all since being home, but I can't really complain..
Would love to get another surf in before I go, the nose of my board got hammered by the heatwave over xmas and new years and is destroyed but I need to have a farewell surf on it!

A lot has gone on over the past 3 months, good times, hard times, happy and sad, but at the end of the day life is what you make of it. If you think it is great it is. If you think it is hard it is.

The mind has power over all that you create, achieve and believe.

So that being sad, life is fucking GREAT!

Happy New Year 2010!
あけましておめでとう！

This year was a New Year full of firsts; my first new years back in Oz for 5 years, my first new years in oz with my darling husband Kuni, my first new years with adorable baby Ryder, and the first New Years in oz that I stayed home and didn't wake up with a hangover the next day!
今回のNew Year's Eveでは５年ぶりオーストラリアで、初めてクニと来君で実家でゆっくりなハウスpartyできて本当に良かった。そして、はじめて飲み過ぎしてなかった！笑う。

Of course when New Years comes around, its time to grab the pen and paper and write out the resolutions that we are so eager to stick to in the first few months. Every year I go back over my old list, and realize that I have actually completed most of my goals, but there are always a few that I could have spent more time working on.

This year however, I decided to keep it simple, keep it real and keep it fully achievable. This year I have just one resolution, and by keeping just one I plan to work on it every day of my life, remembering it always and making it part of my daily routine:

Through this I aim to create a positive atmosphere for myself, my husband, son, family and friends to orb around, with the greater goal of transferring this energy onto those important in my life.

One thing I have learned in 2009, is that we always end up complicating life too much, and sometimes we just need to KEEP IT SIMPLE.

So here's to 2010 and keeping the balance, naturally!

when the surf crashes by, the wind fills my lungs with salt and air and I feel alive. there is no place like home, and there is no home like oz. BBQ on the beach at Wategos this evening, music, love, peace and good friends. Ry was an angel today and slept a whole 4 hours in the day! What a legend. Woke up and we had a swim in the pool and he was just laughing all afternoon and then at the BBQ too. It was an amazing day to get rid of a lot of built up stress i had created in my own little world lately...not good for the soul and not necessary. thanks ry, mummy loves you.

今日夕方から来人と２人で友達とWategosビーチでBBQに行って来た。久しぶりいろいろな友達とあって、みんな音楽やって、赤ちゃんいっぱいいて最高でした。最近自分のライフでストレスいっぱいあったけど、やっぱりそのストレスは自分で作ったばっかりだった。。今日来君がずっといい子して、昼間久しぶりに４時間に寝ちゃって起きたら一緒にプールに入って、BBQ行ったらもずっと笑っていた。ありがとう来人。。ママとても元気なれた。。そしてパパクニとも今日いっぱいメールしてあと少しに会えるから楽しみ。。もうまったない。。

やっとインタネット出来ました！！！おそくなってすみません。もう５日間OZのバイロンベイにいて、５日間来君が海かプールに入っている！良かった。飛行機やっぱり大変だったけど着いたらファマリー久しぶりあってみんなのスマイル見えたらすぐに元気なれた。いとこの赤ちゃんも今４ヶ月でジェットというな男の子。来君のニューベストフレンド。２人は毎日一緒に水で遊んでいて本当に可愛い。４歳のお根ちゃんマヒアちゃんもいて弟達にいっぱいケーヤしてくれてる！
北風で波ずっと良くないけど今日の夕方からちょうどオフになって、いとこセリナと叔父COXYと私３人でSuffolkParkで波乗りしに行っちゃった。セリナのだんなさんマットとまた別のいとこテリサが赤ちゃんを見てくれた。夕方だから１時間しかなかったのに途中にセリナがサメの上に波のって、みんな怖くて15分に上がった！笑。OZにようこそ！
明日の朝も良さそうからBrokenHeadで入ろうと考えっている。
久しぶりOZゆっくり戻って、本当に良かった。バイロンが最高なきれい所で、みんなもすごくペースな感じだから私もライフをちょっとスローダウンしてリーフレッシュ出来てる。
クンちゃんは来週からも来るとそれから６週間撮影が入るから明日から撮影のじゅんびを私がやります。あまり言いたくないけど、３月のBLUEマガジンを楽しみして待ったください。。

今日はナレーションの仕事して来ました！初めてなんでちょう楽しかった！クニパパは来君の事を見てもらって大変だったみたい。。ごめんねクニパパ、ありがとうね。帰ったらパパに『カメラマンの仕事か毎日家でパパするはどちがいい？』と聞いたら、『ハッハ、仕事でしょう！』だって！笑。ママの事はいっぱい分かってくれたみたいので良かった！
今日来君のAussieパスポートが届いたから来週も行けるね！

Today Kuni papa had bubs all day whilst I went and did a voice over recording at a studio in Chiba. It was the first time, but I had a ball and would love to do that kind of work again! When I got home, i asked kuni what he would prefer, working as a photographer or being a full time stay at home day...he just laughed and said working of course! ha ha, we do both love ya RY!
Ry's aussie passport arrived today just in time for us to fly out next week!

ただいま！東京２日間行って来ました。ママが来君を見てもらってクニと久しぶり２人だけで出かけました！仕事のミーテイングだったなのに楽しかった！笑。
今日もイトコが日本に来ていて一緒に渋谷でランチして来た。インフル今やばいと今日めちゃ寒かったから来君またママの家で留守番。とてもいい子していた。明日も私が撮影が入っちゃうからクニパパは見てくれる。こんなに出かけてるは本当に久しぶりからいっぱい楽しんでるけどやっぱり離れるのはちょう寂しい！
来週から来君とお先にオーストラリアに行っちゃうと２月くらいまで帰って来ないからみんなとしばらく会わないと寂しいけどまた来年会えるのは楽しみしてる。来君もいっぱい大きくなるね！向こうでクニと来君と３人で撮影いっぱい頑張って来るからmixiにもアップするね！

Back from 2 days in Tokyo and the first time out just Kuni and I for ages! Thanks to mumma haruyo for taking care of Ry for us. Another day out today in Shibuya-sushi for lunch with Couz pete. With the flu and cold weather going round it was another day in for ry at nana's house. I gotta shoot a movie voiceover tomorrow so Papa kuni has the little angel for the day-3 days in a row out for me, wow! lovin the time to myself but miss the little guy so much at the same time!
We touch down on the goldy next week, can't wait to get away from the chill and back into the sunshine. bring on oz!

Ry had his first big day out at Kaneyo's Art on the Beach on the weekend. Out to support papa who had photos in the art show, Ry was a hit with all the older sexy girls and made several new girlfriends! After a day of constant mumma duties Ry and I took a stroll along the beach this afternoon at Shida. Waves were pumping and the sky was funky. Ry loves the sound of waves and was asleep in his carrier in minutes. Perfect.

Into his 5th week of life, Ryder has learned to smile and although we don't get to see it all the time as he does suffer from bouts of colic, when he busts a grin it is a heart melter!
Trying to balance a freelance working life with a newborn is testing, but thankfully he sleeps perfectly at night so we can all stay sane! He loves his morning walk and I get a guaranteed hour of peace and quiet whilst taking in the stunning Autumn scenery.

もう５週間になって、急に笑い顔出してくれた！いつも出さないと泣き止まらない時もはんぱないけどスマイル出したらやっぱり心が温かくなるね！フリーランスな仕事と産まれたばっかりの赤ちゃんのはママとパパにけっこうハードなんだけど来人君は夜泣きしないとゆっくり寝てもらうから良かった！昼間にもう少し寝てもらえば良いけど。。でも朝の散歩が大好きで家出たらすぐに寝ちゃうからママも散歩中の１時間でリラックス出来るね。そして、家の周りにいっぱいきれいな秋景色があるから最高！

Soo busy being a mummy! Ryder is doing well, growing big and strong everyday. He sleeps great at night and is getting into a routine during the days which is helpful! Have to update the blog in more detail as soon as I get a spare minute!

ママの仕事始まったから自分の時間全部が無くなって、ブロッグをアップデートするも出来なくてごめんなさい。
来君もう毎日大きくなって、いっぱい元気にしてます！！
夜にいっぱい寝てくれて、昼間は忙しいけど最近２人ともルーチンが上手く出来てるから疲れたなのにそんなに大変ではないね。
クニパパも仕事とかでいっぱい忙しいけど毎日ライダーのケーヤをいっぱいヘルプしてくれてるから感謝。来君もパパの事大好きと毎晩２人がいっぱい遊んでます。クニパパ最高です！

今日は予定日。。何かまだ産まれないね。でも、毎日赤ちゃんが下がって来てるし、いつか産まれる感じしてるね。
早く会いたい。。

The due date has arrived with no real serious baby action to report...but he's dropping pretty low so it should be any day now...can't wait to have him in my arms!

まだまだ赤ちゃんが出て来ないから、待ってるは大変！お腹もう大き過ぎでどんどん動きつらいなってる。先週病院に行って、赤ちゃんは3700gram過ぎた。。やばいやばいと思って、先生が『来週かなあ。。』と言われた。。心配するなら、問題が出来ちゃうから心配しないように毎日PCで仕事をやったり、本を読んだり、元気で生けてるけど、やっぱり早く赤ちゃんを出て欲しいね！
今、オーストラリアの旅行紹介ウエッブサイトを作ってるとそろそろあっぷするからそれも楽しみだし、サイトを作ってるあいだにオーストラリアの最高な所をいっぱい見つけて、自分もまだ行った事ない所も多いね。これから行きたい。。サイトがアップしたら皆さんに連絡するは。そして、赤ちゃんが産まれたらも！

It's hard to be sitting and waiting everyday, but as the due date closes in for baby Ryder, there's not much else I can do but relax, chill and try to keep my mind off it! Already at 3700grams, the 'longer we wait the bigger he gets' fear has been slowly creeping in, but the doc does think he will come sometime this week so fingers crossed. In the meantime, I'm keeping busy by working on the computer, reading books, and staying positive...but he could do me a favor by coming anytime, today even...yeah?

Our new Aussie travel website is so close to being finished, which is also exciting and keeping me preoccupied. Putting it together has reminded me of what a beautiful place I call home and how many places I still haven't been to in my own homeland....can't wait to take the new family and just go cruising around oz...

先週の話けど、久しぶり友達にあった！長い付き合いで、もう１０年なったかな。。日本に住んでいるなのに、あってないのは２−３年くらいなっちゃって、千葉まで来てくれた本当に嬉しかった。ありうがとうくみちゃん。

今日ブレッドメーカーが届いて、お母さんと身体にすごくヘルシーなパン作りました。本当にお美味しかった！明日また作ります！

Bread Maker time! Mum and I baked our first batch of sugar-free, healthy wholemeal bread. Tasted fantastic, and got the thumbs up from Kuni. Stoked. Gotta make a new batch tomorrow morning.

No baby to report yet....my patience is being tested...

出産のじゅんび。。
Trying to conserve energy

３日前から陣痛ぽくが30分ずつに来てるけど、そこからあまりかわってない。身体どんどん疲れてるから、今ぜんぜん遠く行かないけど、少し家を出たかったから今日クニとママ３人で近くにあるHerb Islandに行って来ました。ママすごく喜んでた！本当にきれいな所。ご飯もすごくfreshなかんじでとてもお美味しかった。良い一日あった良かった。今夜からまたお腹が痛くなって、これから少し休みます。

Pains and aches everywhere and contractions 30 mins apart but nothing much has changed for the past 3 days. Feeling pretty exhausted, and can't go far, but feeling the need to get out of the house for a change of pace today Kuni, Mum and I went out to the Herb Island in Otaki. Mum was in heaven! Was such a lovely place and lunch was amazing-super fresh with so many herbs!
Great day out, time to put the feet up and get ready for whatever lies in store the next few days...

昨日長い一日。
朝から台風来ちゃったなのに、CYNET/CloveruファマリーBBQ行って来た。今年、TequilaとRumが禁止したから安心でした。笑。
夕方からTaitoの海の家でKeisonライブ。雨が泊まってくれて、サンセット最高でした。
Taitoのlocalsみんなファマリースタイルで遊んで来て、本当にピースな感じ。夏は千葉でしょう。

Long Day yesterday. Despite the hit of Tyhpoon number 9, Kuni and I braved the weather and joined our CYNET/Cloveru crew at Yoshi's house for our annual Korean BBQ party. With no Tequila or Rum on the menu thanks to Chie, everyone was able to get nicely sloshed without the nakedness. Fantastic.
In the evening, the rained went away and we were treated to a beatuiful sunset whilst listening to Keison play live at the Taito Beach House. All the locals were out with their familes, chilling and enjoying good times. Chiba is the place to be for summer.

もう暑いね！夕方まで毎日犬達と留守番。外暑いから。もうやだ！！！
赤ちゃんが2500gmなっちゃったから、早めに生むと頑張っています！毎日灯台まで散歩して、海も入って、いっぱい動いているなのにまだまだみたい。
昨日クニと73Rファマリーと御宿花火大会に行った！最高でした。日本の花火本当にきれい。オーストラリアで花火高いあまりないし、チョコバナナとかかき水とかもないね！日本のほう大好きです。今年までクニと仕事のせいで花火大会一緒に行ってないけど、先週も一宮の花火一緒に見たから嬉しい。
来週ママがオーストラリアから来るから本当に楽しみ。花火見せてあげたいね。

It's so bloody hot, me and dogs are house bound until the evenings every day which is driving me crazy! The baby is 2500gms now, ready to be born although the due date isn't for another 4 weeks. I'm doing the lighthouse walks, getting into the ocean, and trying everything I can to speed it up before the baby gets too big!
Last night Kuni and I went to the Onjuku Fireworks Festival with the 73 Riders crew. I love these festivals in Japan. Choco bananas on a stick, shaved ice in fluro cups, and the prettiest fireworks right there on the beach front. Because of work, Kuni and I haven't see fireworks together until this year, and now we've seen 2 festivals in 1 week! Lovely.
Mum comes over from oz next week, can't wait to see her. Hopefully we can take her to see some pretty lights in the sky.

Back from endless shoot trips both overseas and here in Japan, Kuni has been getting back into the swing of home life. With less than 6 weeks to go before the baby is born, I am under semi-house arrest, having been a little too active up until now and getting the strict word from the doctor and Kuni to slow down. Being the middle of summer holidays here now, it's not so difficult to get into a routine of working on the laptop from the couch under the air con, with daytime soaps and movie breaks to force relaxation. And it's just nice to have Kuni home.

久しぶりクニが撮影トリップなくて、家のライフスタイル戻った感じ。あと１ヶ月くらいに赤ちゃんが生まれるので、私はしばらく家からあまり出かけない。今までちょっと動き過ぎしゃって、お腹がいっぱいかたくなったから心配してたけど、赤ちゃんめちゃ元気してる。ママはこれから生むまでもっと休まなきゃ。。
いつも頑張ってくれてるクニちゃんもママとベビーのヘルスを大事してるから、ご飯も庭の掃除も選択もいっぱいヘルプしてくれてる。良かった。ありがとうクニ☆

It's funny to see how much your body changes during pregnancy, even the simple act of going out to a BBQ for a few hours with good friends is totally draining, or perhaps it was because of the amount I laughed in one sitting! Thanks to the 73R family for inviting us and giving Kuni and good excuse to let his hair down for an afternoon.

妊娠中身体は本当に変わるでしょうね。いろいろびっくりした。力どんどん無くなるね。

I am still making it to the beach almost every evening for a big walk with the dogs, although even that is starting to get tough. But I am not cutting the beach out of my life! So will just have to tone down the walks instead. When I got to Shida, the surf was pumping; a new swell that we have been waiting on for weeks. I called Kuni who was at home building things on his new work bench, and he grabbed the closest camera to him and came down to shoot until the sunset. Officially the rainy season is over, and summer has settled in. The water is still a little icy here in Ichinomiya, but once your legs go numb it's all good fun! Surf has been flat, which for once doesn't bother me in the least! I'm enjoying my pregnant walks and swims every day, along with having a suprisingly busy week working!

雨も泊まって、やっと夏が始まった！一宮の水まだちょっと冷たいなのに、毎日散歩が終わったら泳いでます。波ぜんぜんないけど、私は今サーフィン出来ないから逆に波ないから海がこんでないから良かった！今月もクニと２人とも仕事が本当に忙しくて、もう７月そろそろ終わっちゃう！こわい！

How fast has 2009 gone! Amazing to think it was back in February when Kuni and I were cruizing around India searching for waves...now we are settling into Summer in Japan, still working like crazy, but most importantly, counting down the final weeks until our son is born!

あと２ヶ月に赤ちゃんが生まれて来る！今年早い！最近クニは仕事で外国に行って、私は日本で一人で頑張ってる。外国で妊娠してるのはけっこう大変。。家族が近くにいないと寂しくなる。。でも、クニのお母さんと私たちの仲良い友達からいっぱいサポートしてくれてる私はラッキーと思ってる。感謝。そして、犬達からいっぱいラブしてくれてる。嬉しい。毎日一緒にビーチで散歩してるし、私は泳いでる時に２人がずっと待ってくれる。可愛い。

こんなにサーフィンしてないのは初めてかもしらないから、それは一番ストレス！最近千葉で波もあってるからね。でも、後少しに息子とも一緒にサーフィン出来るから本当に楽しみ。
最後まで、ポサチブで頑張って行きます！

Only 2 months to go which makes me realize how fast this year has gone, yet at the same time these last couple of months seem to be dragging on. Kuni has been overseas for work so I've been plugging along by myself, which is testing for the mind! Without close family an arm's stretch away, pregnancy in a foreign country can be somewhat testing, but luckily I have had great support from kuni's family and our close friends. Not to mention the dogs, who have kept me company on our walks at the beach every day!

This is the longest I haven't been able to surf, and with constant swell hitting Chiba that has been quite frustrating...but there's not long to go now so it's just a matter of staying relaxed and positive, and soon I'll be surfing with my son!

Summer is closing in here in Japan, which will bring to an end the dreaded rainy season soon, and finally the birth of my son. Working from home everyday is starting to drive me crazy; I was certainly not born with the housewife gene. With only 10 weeks to go it seems like time has flown, yet on the contrary as if time has been standing still these last few weeks. But with every day becoming more humid and the sun finally beginning to shine for more than one day at a time, Summer is indeed on its way and the days will continue to tick over.

Having so much time on my hands gives me the chance to sit and evaluate what is important, and what I want to focus on teaching my son. When I see good friends like Dave using their time and efforts for difficult yet worthwhile causes, it gives me inspiration to keep my feet moving myself. Kuni and I only touched the surface earlier this year in India, and there's lot more to be done there and all over the world, as well as at home, to help make this world a better place.

Even with all the trouble, if we can stick together and keep smiling, then it's all worth saving; don't you think?

Finally the rain has cleared up...for the time being anyway. Seeing as I can't surf, I have been enjoying morning walks along the beach followed by a nice swim and body surf! Feels amazing, and the dogs get a little dip too!

しばらくサーフィン出来ないけど、最近毎朝タイトから東浪見まで散歩してる。そして、最後に海入って、ボデイーサーフィンしてる！最高気持良い。犬達も嬉しいそう。

もう８ヶ月は入りました。あと少し。昨日病院で先生が「あなた太り過ぎ』と言われた。。びっくりした！最後まで、赤ちゃんの為にもっと気をつけないと。チョコ＆アイス食べたいなのに。。大変。。

Now in the final countdown, less than 12 weeks to go. The doctor decides that I've put on far too much weight too early on...despite being only 55kgs....but it's 10 more than when I wasn't pregnant. No choccies and ice cream for the final stages...damn...

More dog walks and some ocean swimming I think, and then a tim tam or 2 every now and then...

Wonder how they are going to take the new member of the family....we will find out soon....

赤ちゃん生まれたら、犬達どうなるかな。。ジェラシーでしょう。。可愛いね。

This weekend is Kuni's mum's birthday....fugu and onsen...bring it on.

Keeping the peace alive

2 years ago, a good friend of ours Dave Rastovich came over to Japan to lead a peaceful ceremony in honor of the whales and dolphins killed annually. The media did its best to distort the actual events, but some good media outlets did pick up on exactly what we all hoped to accomplish. Thanks Deborah for this. It was nice to relive just how beautiful the ceremony was and how important peaceful movements are.
